Assessment of seismic responses toward multi-story buildings of steel special moment resisting frame by considering the setback irregularities

چکیده

Setback irregularities are considered where discontinuity between adjacent stories is excessive. This irregularity caused the probability of high damage at structures subjected to strong earthquake motion. For this purpose, study was conducted by modeling steel special moment frame (SMF) using a finite element calculation program with nonlinear static analysis compared Padang city’s response spectrum. The buildings also modeled two types setbacks: single and multiple setbacks. results paper discussed including explanation many parameters that relate elastic inelastic seismic responses (SMF). Based on results, setback irregularities, both setbacks, adequately sufficient SNI 1726 2019 regarding drift limit. other in terms fundamental periods, inter-story drifts, story stiffness, base shear. Referred Indonesian Seismic Provision, 2019, it found building has more adequate than setbacks responses. Then, assessments these explained address recommendations about future prevention toward damages failures buildings.

Seismic fragility assessment of RC moment resisting frame buildings designed for different editions of Iranian seismic design code

Background and objective: Developing fragility and vulnerability functions are important tools in seismic reliability assessment of buildings and are widely used in regional seismic risk studies. To date sufficient studies for developing analytical fragility functions for Iranian code-conforming buildings have not been carried out. Performing such studies are necessary to assess the adequacy of...

assessment of the park- ang damage index for performance levels of rc moment resisting frames

Performance Evaluation of Curved-TADAS Damper on Seismic Response of Moment Resisting Steel Frame

In this study, the performance of triangular added damping and stiffness (TADAS) dampers combined with curved dampers (Curved-TADAS damper) is evaluated in moment resisting steel frame (MRSF). These dampers are passive and install in the beam-column connection region. Variable parameters of this study involve the width of curved damper (50, 75 and 100 mm), the thickness of TADAS damper (5 and 1...

Period Formulas for Moment-resisting Frame Buildings

Most seismic codes specify empirical formulas to estimate the fundamental vibration period of buildings. Evaluated first in this paper are the formulas specified in present US codes using the available data on the fundamental period of buildings “measured” from their motions recorded during eight California earthquakes, starting from the 1971 San Fernando earthquake and ending with the 1994 Nor...

A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF OPTIMUM AND IRANIAN SEISMIC DESIGN FORCE DISTRIBUTIONS FOR STEEL MOMENT RESISTING BUILDINGS

In this study, constant-ductility optimization algorithm under a family of earthquake ground motions is utilized to achieve uniform damage distribution over the height of steel moment resisting frames (SMRFs). SMRF structures with stiffness-degrading hysteric behavior are modeled as single-bay generic frame in which the plastic hinge is confined only at the beam ends and the bottom of the first...
